The tarot card for today is the Empress. What does this card, traditionally thought to represent fertility, have to do with the ingress of the Sun into Virgo?

In the Rider Waite tarot deck, the Empress is depicted in a gown of white, decorated with pomegranates, seated on a bench in a cornfield. At her feet is a stone carved with the symbol of Venus, and head is crowned with stars. Beyond her, a fertile woodland grows.

Typically, the Empress shows up when fertility is an issue, but this doesn't have to mean reproductive fertility - it can also relate to the fertility of ideas, business or personal growth. The stone bench, the woodland and the corn all symbolize the Empress' links to the earth element.

Today, the Sun enters Virgo, that most earthy of signs. Virgo energy is dutiful, meek and hard working, but sometimes overly critical. Ruled by Mercury, this sign is full of bright ideas and brilliant plans, but often lacks the get up and go or the confidence to put them into practice.

Today, the Empress card is here to help all of us who find ourselves struggling to believe that our ideas are good enough - that we are good enough. Allow the Virgo Sun's humble vibes to fill you up, but never doubt your own abilities. Use the intelligence of this sun transit, but don't be caught out by it's self-critical vibe. You can do it - go ahead and try.
