For Sunday, August 3rd, 2014

The tarot card for today is the Knight of Cups. This is quite a thoughtful card, and fits in well with today's Moon-Mars conjunction in Scorpio.

The Knight of Cups, in the Rider Waite tarot, shows us a very careful Knight, fully armored, riding his horse across a desert, carrying his single cup. Beneath the horse's hooves, a river flows. There's a lot of symbolism in this card. The winged helmet gives us the impression of speed and urgency, yet the horse is well controlled and apparently in no hurry. The Knight's armor protects him - against what? And what exactly is in that cup that must not be spilled? Does the river indicate that the dryness of the desert is about to give way?

The Knight of Cups tends to show up when there are developments in romance, or in the arts. However, as connected to the Moon-Mars conjunction, I think today he has a much more personal meaning than that. The Moon-Mars conjunction shows that there is a tremendous amount of energy in the day - yet this conjunction occurs in Scorpio, perhaps the most focused and controlled of all signs. Scorpio turns this drive and ambition inwards, and the urge is to discover and to dig deep.

The Knight of Cups is here today to tell us that we must seek answers (the river) where they are least likely to occur (the desert). In doing so, we can discover emotional riches (the cup) which we will want to preserve. In other words, don't be afraid today to open big, scary, emotional boxes, and to confront what lies within them.
