Daily Tarot

For Tuesday, April 15th, 2014

The tarot card for today is the Five of Wands. How does this quarrelsome card fit with the astrological energies of the day, especially the total lunar eclipse and the Mercury-Pluto square?

The Five of Swords in the Rider Waite deck depicts five men quarreling with their staves, and the traditional interpretation, not surprisingly, is of arguments and discord.

Today's total lunar eclipse in Libra indicates that negotiations fail and compromise slips out of reach in many areas of life, which would agree with the traditional Five of Swords interpretation. The Mercury-Pluto square indicates that reason falls on deaf ears, and that many people are too fired up and too volatile to want to be talked out of their anger. It's an ill-tempered kind of a day, both on a personal level and on the world stage.

However, look more closely at the card. If you didn't know the "right" interpretation, you wouldn't necessarily read temper or anger from this image. At least some of the men in the card look as if they could be trying to assemble some kind of tower with their staves, rather than fight with them. The facial expressions are inconclusive, but there's definitely more to the Five of Swords than meets the eye. Likewise with today's astrological energies. We can easily jump to the negative conclusions about the day, but there is potential for teamwork today if we can see past and soothe the ruffled feathers we come across.

Consider it a challenge, if you will. What can you do today to build with your tools (your wit, your energy, your skills, your expertise) instead of to fight with them?
