2025-07-10 Daily Tarot
For Thursday, January 30th, 2014
Today's tarot card is The Hermit. There is a New Moon in Aquarius today, and it's the second New Moon of the month, so it's an extra powerful one. In many ways, the message of The Hermit and the message of the New Moon are very similar.
In the Rider Waite tarot, the Hermit card is a simple but striking one. It depicts an elderly man wearing a hooded robe, standing alone on a snowy path. He carries a staff for wisdom and stability, and a lantern, for seeking the truth. He looks absorbed and deep in thought. Traditionally, the Hermit card represents a period of seclusion, or a time when privacy is important. The Hermit advises us to withdraw and to look for answers alone rather than following the crowd.
Today's New Moon is in Aquarius, which is most definitely the most Hermit like of all of the zodiac signs. Aquarius urges everyone to tread their own path, to carve their own identity, and to not give in to pressure to conform. The eccentric of the zodiac, Aquarius takes the New Moon energies of a fresh beginning and applies them to a path of knowledge and learning. The new beginnings many of us will embrace today are opportunities which we must undertake alone, or which we must work towards alone, without necessarily either the support or the understanding of others. The Aquarius New Moon isn't about fitting in, but it is about seeking answers, just as the Hermit does.
The message from the tarot and the astrology today is to follow your own path. If you want to tear up received wisdom and head down a different path - do it. Who cares what anyone else thinks? It's your life, and you and you alone know what is best for you. Go your own way, do your own thing, and be proud to leave a new trail for others to follow instead of following in someone else's footsteps yourself.
