Ace of Wands

Ace of Wands Tarot Card

When we see a wand in popular media today like movies, TV shows, or otherwise, we know that the person holding it is also holding a lot of creative power. The magic held within the wand (and the user who wields it) can be used to do anything. Light a fire? Boom! A fantastical duel with another witch or wizard? Shazam! Rabbit out of a hat? Poof! The wand, however, is only a tool – it's the person wielding it that has the majority of the power. The wand is simply the focus, the object that a magical person uses to harness their creative energy and when we are given that wand to use for whatever we wish, magic happens!

In the Ace of Wands card, we see a beautiful valley – the grass is green, a river is flowing, and a castle sits on top of a small hill. In the forefront, a hand is jutting forth from a cloud, wielding a wand. The wand looks like it could be a branch cut down just recently from a tree. Due to the potential trapped within that wand, leaves are starting to grow out of its sides.

Most often, the Ace of Wands stands for the very heart of creativity. When you feel the drive, the want, the need to start a venture, a project, or a trip. it's the energy from the Wands suit that fuels that passion. You feel out the project with the Cup suit, you plan out your plan with the Swords suit, and you may even gather your physical materials with the Pentacles suit... but nothing would ever get done without the Wands suit! The Ace stands for all action – setting pen to paper, pushing the 'Go' button, and taking that first step down a long road.

The Ace of Wands also points to that eagerness to begin that can be found within all of us from time to time. When everything is ready, plans set and heart invested, it's the wands suit that fills us with that creative drive, that giddy desire to get going.

Most importantly is this – the Ace can supply you with the wherewithal and guts to take that first step. It was Bilbo Baggins from the Lord of the Rings that said, 'It's a dangerous business, going out your front door.' We all know it can be rough, tough, and just unenjoyable sometimes when heading down a given path... but it's the Ace of Wands that can give you the courage and scream, 'Now's your chance!'

Begin Anew With a Fresh Clean Slate

When you get the Ace of Wands card in your hand, there are plenty of questions you should be asking yourself. What do you feel driven to do? What excites you? Do you know how to tap into your own creative energy? Can you push yourself to take that first step towards your goals? Can you do it today?

The Ace is the true embodiment of a suit's message – any Ace card will symbolize the heart of what each card in that suit boils down to. This means, of course, that it can be hard to parallel these Ace cards against other cards in the deck.

The Two of Wands holds a lot of that creative power that the Ace showcases – the Two, however, is all about using that energy to try something new and different. The Eight of Wands deals with the immediacy of your action, as does the Ace of Wands – whatever you want to do, you'd best do it now if you pull both (or either) of these cards!
