Today's tarot card is the Seven of Cups, and its inherent meaning of surprises and choices is very relevant to today's astrological aspects, including the Mercury-Neptune sextile.

In the Rider Waite deck, the Seven of Cups shows us a figure in silhouette who is being confronted by seven cups. In each, there is a gift or a treasure of some sort - from a tower to jewels, from a mystically shrouded figure to a laurel wreath, and from a head to a serpent to a dragon. Essentially, each cup represents a choice, and the figure in the card is bound to be confused about which he should choose.

We're in a similar situation today, given the Mercury-Neptune sextile. Neptune is a very spiritual planet but she does spread confusion and illusion. If we try to use Mercury - use our logic - to choose from these seven cups, we're highly likely to get it wrong. All is not what it seems. What if the jewels are poisoned? What if the laurel wreath brings not reward but unwelcome responsibility? What if the snake, which most of us would instinctively avoid, would actually bring us wisdom or knowledge, as biblical tradition might have it in the Garden of Eden? These are things which logic cannot know.

The right way to handle the Mercury-Neptune sextile is also the right way to handle the Seven of Cups - ie to accept that logic can be flawed and instead to choose the shrouded figure - to rely on instinct and intuition to guide us. Logic cannot see a way through Neptune's confusion - but instinct can.
