The tarot card for today is Death, and it's hard to think of a more appropriate card for this day, on which the astrological effects of the cardinal Grand Cross are at their peak.

Death is a much feared card in the tarot, because it does tend to indicate some kind of drastic, unpleasant or even catastrophic ending. It's not a welcome sight.

Today, a powerful cardinal Grand Cross reaches its maximum impact in the heavens, as Mars opposes Uranus and Jupiter opposes Pluto. Significantly, the Grand Cross becomes exact when when all four planets are at 13 degrees of their respective signs; Death is number 13 in the tarot.

The astrological energies involved are huge and potent; it seems certain that today will be a breaking point in some regard, whether on the world stage or in our personal lives. The message from the cardinal Grand Cross is that you cannot have it all. Something has to give. You're stretching yourself too thin in trying to cover all bases, and now it's time to prioritize better.

However, unpleasant endings, as brought by the Death card, also disguise new beginnings. This Grand Cross is necessary as a clearing of the air and it brings us the opportunity to start over in some areas of life. It won't be easy to celebrate what goes on today, but there are seeds of hope hidden in the Death card, and once the dust has settled it will be clear to see that something new and rather exciting is being born.
